PittsburghA Layout by and for Shane Engelmann
The Pittsburgh Railroad was partially intended to be a cub scout badge, so Shane got to
do a lot of the work. He used the nail gun to secure the plywood to the frame. He painted the primer and the grassy areas.
The construction pit, done by my wife Julie, is a combination of playground sand and acrylic matte medium.
This engine is really cool, but it costs as much as the same thing in DCC from Bachmann. It is made by a company called Whittle Stop. Luckily for me, no one on eBay knew that. These are truly the Cadillacs of the Wooden Train world.
The hardware store and the lumber yard are easily the busiest place on the layout. At least, there is always a lot of cars parked out front.
Yachting on the Allegheny River is a peaceful pastime. Occasionally, though not nearly often enough,
a baseball hit by a big Pittsburgh left-hander, may come floating by. Almost as rare, is the spotting of Nessie,
the friendly sea monster. At the rear is the construction pit. There is always a lot of activity, but everyone is wondering what will be built there. It may be a while, they are the same guys that repair the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Tomas waits for passengers at the Pittsburgh Station. The busses are running a little late, but Tomas is a few minutes ahead of schedule and has decided to wait--just like Amtrak does. |
