This pair of .44 mag 5 1/2" RVs are stocked with N.C. Ordnanace "Classic
Ivory Like" checkered grips. The checkering does not show up well in the picture.
The checkering makes for a very secure grip, even though it is a tad
uncomfortable with heavy recoil loads.

1956 vintage Colt SAA .45. It was engraved in the Helfricht style by a master engraver, Peter Kretzmann, who is one of the featured engravers in a new book on engraving by R.L. Wilson. Mr. Kretzmann also engraved guns for the movie "Last Stand At Saber River."
This Colt has been given an action job and the old two-piece grips are made from elephant ivory.
A fine piece that shoots as good as it looks. Also enclosed is a photo of me wearing the gun.

1-2)Well, it had to happen needed a 1911 for Wild Bunch Side Matches. Done some trading and swapping and ended up with a nearly new 1911A1 Colt
(Springfield manufactured) in 38 Super. Well, a new pistol needs some fancy grips so I bid on a couple sets on a couple of auction sites
but there were no bargains to be had. Well, I got to digging around in my box of knife making supplies and came across a nice slab of moose palm.
After a good bit of measuring, cutting, sanding, drilling and polishing this is the final result.
3)These remind me of the grips seen on the original Great Westerns, These come from Russ N Hound .
I did the antique finish as you can see there on a set of SS RV's

These are AWA 5.5 inch, Peacekeepers that I just had to try and make grips
for. I being a full time rifle and knife maker Thought it would be easy with
the equipment that I have. Of course I had to use something I didn't think
anybody else would have . The grips are aged giraffe leg bone laminated and
pined on to an ironwood base. The bone cost me $60 and the ironwood cost $30
per gun, and about 12 hours of work, but I did come up with something that
no one else will have.

Here is a picture of my China Camp 32-20 that was engraved By Jim Downey. It has real Ivory grips and
an action job by Hogleg Smith. I have another ust like it.

I made these nice grips for my 1911 and I thought you might like to see them.
They're cherry, aged about 15 years. There is some figure and a little
flash which doesn't show up well in the scans. The wood was sanded with
increasingly finer grits until I was at 1500 and then I used crocus cloth.
Crocus cloth is used in polishing crankshaft journals. The grips looked
like they were finished before I even put any finish on them! I used
Birchwood Casey's True-oil, 4 coats. Each one sanded with the crocus cloth
in between except for the last coat. They're so smooth they look like they're
plastic except for the wonderful depth.

When I got into SASS a year or so ago I took my time deciding what to get -
I liked the look of the '75 Uberti Outlaw the most so that was my first
pistol. Although I've had some minor problems and sent it back three times
the folks at EMF treated me well (after I sent a personal e-mail explaining
I was SASS). I bought the grips thru Buffalo Brothers after visiting them at EOT 2001,
they were the only ones offering grips for this gun. It took a while until
they showed, I had them installed this year at EOT by them. I get many
comments on the gun & the grip. Although I've a Ruger also, I'm thinkin' of
getting a pair of Remmis - if I don't go for the open tops instead...

Security Six grips....So far they have been on four Rugers, but have found a permanent resting place
on this one...
