    2) Engraved pair .38's: Both early 2nd gen. Colts, carved staghorn grips. Engraving by J. Harper
3)FA Meanea: 1st gen Colt, original pearl grips
    4) Colt 7.5: 2nd gen Colt, smooth stag grips.
5-6)Cimarron '72 Open Tops. The Mexican eagles are solid silver and are mounted on both sides of the grips. The molds were carved by firearms engraver Jerry Harper and the eagles cast by an independent silversmith. The eagles hug the contours of the grips and look like they grew out of the wood. They offer a wonderful gripping surface, superior to anything I've ever tried. And they are elegant!
All of these guns are used regularly (30 to 35 matches a year) in competition.

I shortened the barrel to 6ins and fitted a Uberti Front sight and loading lever latch, I reamed out the cylinders so that I could use a snail capper. I wanted to really personalise it so I asked Russ N Hound to... Do his stuff and ended up with what you see now, an absolutely Beautiful Remmie that's my Pride and joy and when its in its holster with Paladins knight ...WOW!!!!

1)The grips on a 3rd Gen. Colt SAA, nickel, 7.5" barrel. "TR" is copied from Teddy Roosevelt's SAA (my "real" name initials are the same. Figgered for the cost of the grips, I'd rather not have "PW" carved on 'em. ;) Elephant ivory, grips mfg. & carved by Mike Prince of Redmond, OR.
2)The grips on a Navy Arms 7.5" Schofield. Elephant tusk fitted by Mike Prince; sterling silver wolf head & Indian Scout "crossed arrows" done by Major Cole (aka: Bill Falk) of Elk, WA.
3)Factory ivory-polymer one-piece grip on an EAA Arminius .44mag. "Howling Wolf" scrimshaw by Jim Fields of "Scrimshaw & Silver", Dallas, OR.
4)Ithaca (mfg. 1943) 1911-A1, my "Wild Bunch" match pistol. Stag panels, everything else is stock G.I. I carry it in a HH Heiser holster. This particular pistol was carried by its previous owner in Korea and Vietnam. Purchased from him in 1974.
5)Schofields...the grips on the Navy Arms "Wells Fargo" model are checkered faux ivory that I picked up from Beaver Dick at Hansen's Leather & Supply Co. http://www.hansons.net/

Recently I recieved a new pair of grips from our pard Russ N. Hound and fitted them up to one of my USFA Rodeos. These are a new type of grip Russ has been working on. They are really one piece not the two piece glued together type we're used to. Picture 4 is a picture of 3 unfitted grips. I had a hard time finding grip blanks that would work on the Rodeo's and have talked to other pards who had the same problem

1-2) Titanium Nitride-plated early model Dakotas built by ASM . The fellow I brought the grips from wondered if they could be checkered and how they would feel, so we worked a deal that he would checker two pairs if I brought them. Dave Smith is the man who did the checkering by hand. He is the gunsmith at Guncraft.

I tried to keep my grips on my brace of 45 Vaqueros simple but different. Although hard to see I removed the ruger emblem and replaced it with the base of a spent 45LC case. I thinned the stock grips considerably and refinished them with stain (aquafortis) and tru-oil giving it a nice "used" feeling.

    1) Uberti 1875 [.45 Colt] is a set of faux stag from The Gripmaker. They are supposed to "age" naturally. I didn't want a "full aged" appearance so I "painted" them with flat varnish to try to arrest the process
    2) Uberti 1890 [.45 Colt] is nickel plated with hard rubber [gutta percha] Remington logo grips from EMF
    3) Uberti S&W .44 Russian is a set of checkered faux ivory from Dixie Gun Works. They also have them in smooth. I tried a slight aging by soaking them in hot tea for about six hours. Perhaps a stronger solution for less time would have done the same thing.
    4) Colt .44 Special is a Third Generation Colt. The grips are faux ivory from Tylers Tru-Grip in Oklahoma. [may no longer be in business] I think they have some real ivory dust? in them as they aged on their own.
    5) Dixie Pietta J.H. Dance and Bros. is a .44 caliber repro of the Dance Revolver of C&W fame. The grips are wood [walnut? hardwood? who knows?] but I thought the grain and burl was kinda nice. Incidentally the whole pistol is very nicely made and finished. The actual models were on a Colt Dragoon size frame I think. This one is on an 1860/1851 size frame. Barrel is eight inches. I haven't shot it yet but I am looking forward to doing so.
