- Adirondack Jack
A while back I decided I wanted to make grips for my Rugers. Tony Tinhorn's grip page
gave me all the info I needed to make my very first revolver grips.
I bought a chunk of Brazilian rosewood from a local yard specializing
in exotic hardwood and went at it. While I stayed close to the Ruger
pattern for CAS use, I went with a more flat bottom "Colt style", so
I can get all my fingers on the grips. From the scrap I made a handle
for the knife pictured, which is an old pattern Russell Green River works Sheath knife. The blank was purchased from Texas Knifemakers.
- Aimless Lee
Howdy from way down under. The standard grips on my ASM Schofield were too thin for my hands so I made these out of New Zealand walnut, didn't take that long either.
- Blue Rock Bill
Bill Mains engraved the backstraps of my Vaqueros while I was at the Grand American
last week. I chose silver for the inlay so it would tie into the silver colored trigger and hammer.
If anyone is interested Mains can be reached at 1 765 778 9243 or fax 778 9273.
- Bandoleer Bonnie
Springfield Slim: Here is a picture of my wife's gun. Her alias is Bandoleer Bonnie, thus the BB on the grips. I did it by puting brass tacks in her grips, pre drilling first of course.

has been cut down to match. The .45 Colt cartridge cylinder from is Kenny Howell.
The grips are made from poly-ivory block sold for scrimshanding by Dixie Gun Works.
4-6) The 1875 is a new E.M.F. clone in .44-40. The grips are genuine elephant ivory made by Jim Alaimo of Nutmeg Sports.
7)The 1890 is an older E.M.F. clone in .45 Colt. The grips are poly-ivory from Buffalo Brothers

The black ones are mounted on my son's Ruger Blackhawk. I replaced the gripframes and hammers with Super Blackhawk parts and my son is currently working on getting short barrels for both of his Blackhawks. One still has the original six-inch barrel, the other has been changed to a short, 4 5/8"??. All of the grip panels were scrimshawed by my friend, Don Busik, aka Gun Hawk. He lives in North Hollywood

1) 62 Navy with laminated grips, not what you would call period correct but they do look good!
2) One is a Uberti and one is an A.S.M., you cant tell it in the pictures but the trigger, trigger guard, hammer and all the screws are gold plated, the rest is
nickel. A friend of mine, Red Dooly, did the plating for me. Her and her husband,
T-Bone, own www.badlandsbar3.com and Pauls Pawn and gun shop, she does rings and
stuff but I talked her in to doing these for me, I did the "work" stripped the blue
and cch then polished them up
3-4) Colt 2nd Gen. and the Sig. series, heres a picture of one I just picked up, it will get shot just like the rest of them.

1-2) Ruger Old Army with Eagle Gunfighter Grips in ivory polymer (not Ultra
Ivory.) They're checkered, and Eagle didn't have any checkered Ultra Ivory
at the time. Ultra Ivory ages. This, like the stainless gun, looks brand
new always.) This is a "working" gun, so too fancy grips wouldn't be
appropriate. It gets some hard use.
3) This is the "Before." Currently this gun and its twin are at Peacemaker
Specialists getting enough work that the price used to buy a car. This is a
stock SASS Colt SAA in .45 Colt. The "After" photo will have elephant
ivory. Eddie Janis of Peacemaker Specialists was chosen because Clint Smith
of Thunder Ranch recommended him. So watch this space.
4)A matched pair of Ruger Old Armies with 5-1/2" barrels
with action jobs by Lee's Gunsmithing. They work flawlessly and are easier
to handle than my 7-1/2" barrel set--worth the money. Grips are Eagle
American elk horn.
5) The "after" shot, SASS Colts after spending 6+ months with
Peacemaker Specialists for real dead elephant one-piece ivory stocks and
Peacemaker's incomparable action job, smooth, light, precise, and reliable ‹
also expensive. The ivory is fitted as perfectly as possible.

1)On top is a Colt 3rd Gen. with one piece, elephant ivory grips by Jim Alaimo of Nutmeg Sports (nutmegsports.com). On bottom is a USFA, special ordered to match the Colt, with factory elephant ivory. THe presentation case was made by Bill Shumate.
2)I offer this not so much for the grips, which are nice, but for the rarity of the gun. It is one of only 40 Richards-Mason conversions made by U. S. Firearms. U.S.F.A. abandoned plans to put this model into production.
3) Brand new Colt with the reintroduced removable cylinder bushing. Grips are elephant ivory by Paul Persinger of El Paso, TX.

1) The wood is cocobolo. No finish as yet, the wood is so hard you can polish it. The grips are about 1/16" larger all around to fill my hand
2) this is the first set of grips I made. These are Zebra wood, tung oil finish. Attract a lot of attention at matches. $10 for a chunk of lumber, the rest is labor.

2) Customized Engraved Ruger Blackhawks, 357 Mag. The bottom gun started life
as a three screw and the top one is a new model. These guns were customized
before Ruger produced Vaqueros. These were converted to fixed sights,
hexagon barrels, nickel plated and engraved. The grips are gold-tone pewter,
slim profile; floral cut much like the engraving. Both guns do have the
ever-present ruger cylinder marks, since I started shooting them. The guns,
grips, leather, and baby bowie are all pre owned items obtained over the
last 2-3 years. There are nice items out there at good prices, never stop
looking. The guns from estate sale (auction), grips & leather from other
SASS CAS members, and the knife was a yard sale find.
3) .36 Pietta stainless 58 Remmies, Grips customized from old Jay Scott
Blackhawk laminated stag with Great Seal of United States medallions added
and backstrap butt rounded. Chopped to 5 ½", brass ramp frontsight, &
cylinders reamed for snail capper.

Silver inlay on the original walnut grips on a pair of Cimarron '72 Colt Open Tops in .44 Russian with Consecutive Serial #s. The design represents my alias. The grips were made by a fella by the name of Owl Hoot in New Hampshire. I provided the design and the original grips and he did the work. He also slicked up the actions for me and lightened and matched the mainsprings some.
